Soda Pop Dance Challenge: Ditch the Plastic, Keep the Fizz

Updated: Aug 18, 2025

What if a summer dance challenge were also a call for clean oceans?

When Alma dropped her moves to Saja Boys’ Soda Pop from Netflix's Kpop Demon Hunters, the beat was fun, though the message was serious. Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in the ocean, breaking down into microplastics that fish (and eventually humans) swallow. The fizz of life underwater is at risk of going flat.

At ClimateHope.us, we believe joy and justice can move together. While dancing lifts spirits, it also lifts awareness. With each corgi video, each dance, each challenge, we remind ourselves that climate action can also be motivating and fun.

Want more ocean joy? Check out our one of our stories The Joy of Oceans and watch this clip wherein Alma highlights the threats of plastic pollution, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, and fossil-fuel-driven plastic production—while pointing to hopeful efforts like The Ocean Cleanup and grassroots groups such as Rise St. James.
